This Family and Domestic Violence Prevention Month, The Separation Guide has launched a national campaign to support victim survivors navigating separation and divorce.

I Care About Conflict is a collaborative initiative that calls on legal professionals, tech innovators, employers, and insurers to sponsor victim survivors through the crucial early stages of separation, where we have the best chance to minimise conflict.

Sponsorship provides recipients with one-year access to the SepGuideTM Plan, which includes access to legal and financial advice,** resources and guidance to help reduce costs, conflict and confusion.

Reducing conflict matters. For every victim survivor sponsored, you will remove an average of 150 days’ stress from their life and generate $210,000 of social impact. And, for every 10 plans sponsored, The Separation Guide will also donate one — increasing your impact.

Together, let's measure our collective efforts to change the course of conflict and deliver greater access to justice for abuse victims.

You can read more about SepGuideTM Plan and inclusions here. With each plan purchased you will be providing a victim survivor of family violence with 12-month access to the SepGuideTM Plan. For Supporter Plus Plans that includes access to four sessions with professionals, providing them with vital access to legal and financial advice at this critical time.

FAQs

How are you protecting the safety of family violence victim survivors?

People seeking information about family and domestic violence are triaged into a category of special support, with safety being the highest priority. Anyone in immediate danger is prompted to call 000 and are provided with a range of family violence shelters in their state.

These processes were developed in consultation with family violence agencies and include content and support resources from various trauma-informed experts including White Ribbon Australia, clinical psychologists and qualified legal professionals. The SepGuideTM Plans provide family violence victims with information and support across all stages of separation and is tailored to their circumstances, location and needs.

How are family violence victims identified and validated?

Individuals who complete the Q&A are identified as family violence victims either through self-identification or via educational prompts that raise awareness of potential abuse. The Separation Guide recognises all types of family violence and abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, spiritual, cultural, financial, technological methods of abuse, and neglect.

How is the privacy of victims protected?

Recipient details remain confidential from sponsors and are only provided to professionals with their permission, at the point in which they engage them for support via The Separation Guide platform. We follow Essential Eight cyber security measures and practice under the Privacy Act 1988 to protect the privacy and safety of client details.

How does the SepGuideTM Plan remove 150 days from the process?

In short, it helps reduce the cost, conflict and confusion of separation and divorce and we have the data to prove it. The Separation Guide conducts research and development to measure the cost and timeframe for people reaching a resolution. This data comes from a 2023 survey that reviewed 568 recipient responses comparing the average timeframe for those who had access to The Separation Guide vs those who did not. The results showed that users were able to reach a resolution 150 days faster at an average of 52% less cost.

This data has been further substantiated by JustFund, a legal loan provider, who noted that The Separation Guide clients require less than 50% of the funding compared to those not having access to the resources.

By reducing conflict, we help reduce impact to mental health, reduce the burden to the family courts and protect the safety of our community.

Is my sponsorship tax deductible?

The sponsorship is a traditional sponsorship, not a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).

Donations to DGR-endorsed organisations are tax-deductible as a charitable donation. However, sponsorship is treated as a business expense, deductible only to the extent that it relates to advertising, marketing, or business promotion that is aimed at generating future income. Sponsors will receive a "tax invoice" for marketing services rendered (e.g., logo placement, advertising exposure). Unlike a DGR, which prohibits advertising of the support provided, a sponsorship can be promoted via prominent logo placement, speaking opportunities, media mentions, social media campaigns, etc.

In this way, sponsors participating in this campaign can enhance brand exposure while still claiming tax deductions through regular business expenses. If you need further clarification, please seek professional tax advice.

What happens if demand outstrips supply from sponsors?

Statistically, we know that there are more victim survivors of family violence and abuse needing assistance with separation and divorce than we will be able to help.

In 2024, more than 52,000 women were turned away from women’s legal services due to funding shortages, despite seeking help to leave domestic and family violence situations. This equates to about 1,000 women being denied vital legal assistance every week.

These figures only highlight the critical need for this campaign - and for corporate Australia to get behind it. The more sponsorships we can secure, the more individuals gain access to professional advice, services and resources to change their lives.

What is The Separation Guide?

The Separation Guide is a divorce technology platform and social enterprise set up to minimise the cost, conflict and confusion of separation and divorce. The platform looks at the systemic issues that cause conflict and unfair agreements that impact longterm health and financial wellbeing within our communities.

They work with consumers and professionals, along with supporting downstream stakeholders such as employers, insurers, superfunds and government to help solve this issue that causes $101 billion of social impact every year in Australia.

The Separation Guide goals are to:

  • reduce conflict through the separation process
  • deliver greater access to justice for women
  • reduce stress to improve mental health outcomes

… and ultimately, be part of creating a world where gender equality can be a reality.

For every 10 SepGuideTM Plans sold, The Separation Guide donates one to a victim of family and domestic violence.
